there’s nuthin you can’t buy, when you’re in new york

Travel, Uncategorized / February 7, 2014

got home late last night from our buying trip to nyc.  what a weather ridden week.

this was pretty much the scene — every time you stepped out of a cab it was into a puddle of grey mush up to your ankle.

Untitled
on monday it was snowing sideways, upways and in between.  admittedly there was a brief period where i thought it was magical, but mostly it was a pain in the ass, and really cold.

thanks instagram friends for the rec on the jcrew wintress puffer.  i found it a little ill-fitted, but it did the job.  we just don’t have a real need to puff in NC, so i was in need of advisement.  yal did me right.

jessica joined me – she came ready to dare to mix.

loving her mara hoffman travel bag – she gave it a great review: leather bottomed, plenty of room, easy as a carry-on and a delight for the eyes.

but it was all business for this one, and that required steak breakfasts before we hit up the show for shopping.  (at a fave, the standard grill in the hotel)

go ahead and get the pretty stuff right?  i’ll have to say, and i know i’ve said this before, but this time WAS DIFFERENT.  i can say with all authority we have brought sexy back.  furbish is returning to it’s roots.  we went real southern-on-dat-ass, buying chintz, needlepoint, traditional porcelain, and gift candles complete with a bow for giving.  real classy-like.  don’t worry though – my boho bits will remain unscathed, but the mix is just going to get better.   more layered.  more authentic to me, and more of that crazy kooky look that i can’t get enough of, with a spin of sophistication this time.  we’re doing it.

and finally – no trip to nyc would be complete without the food and friends.  highlights included an afternoon with anna and olivia from black + spiro

dinner at the viceroy hotel in their updated restaurant kingside

and breakfast with my funny friends nick and frances bailey at balthazar

now that i’m back, i’m dreaming of spring and anxious for all of our pretty new purchases to arrive.  i’m thinking this might be a spring uniform look as i unpack all those boxes, from urban outfitters instagram

"Date 1944. Sorority sisters at the University of Texas." by sdasfvrce in OldSchoolCoolOn East Lake Shore Drive, this co-op project combined 2 separate units last updated in the '60s into 1 lavish apartment with a gut-remodel, relocating the kitchen to the front of the apartment overlooking the lake. Interior by Summer Thornton Design
ter bath, Thornton juxtaposed diagonal swaths of Calacatta Monet marble with Breccia stone to distract from the room’s asymmetrical layout while providing a unique take on tradition, highlighted by the Waterworks fixtures and a freestanding tub by Ann Sacks. The oak paneling was detailed with black molding, a reference to the hand-painted ceiling in the living room.
