i’ve been hinting around a project i’m working on in the bahamas — didn’t want to screw the pooch by sharing before it was a finalized gig, but alas – it’s real! and i could not be more inspired and stoked to get going on all the ideas i’ve been brewing. one of my fave raleigh families – i’ve been working with them for almost a decade – purchased a lot on eleuthera and are starting construction now on a family home that we’re going to shore-up (laughs) to be a really good-looking island escape, that’s also practical for every-day living.
here’s a little vibety-vibe board to get everyone’s rum punch flowing – materials, sourcing and quality are super important when considering picks for the bahamas. taxes are high, the humidity is higher and it’s not just a game of picking pretty things. i’m up for a challenge, so designing with these key factors in mind tricky in the best way. lots of bright whites, a few patterned tile moments, art has to be easy and impactful (think installations of fans from ghana and baskets from senegal), brass that will patina nicely with the weather, and lots of lacquer and rattan (india hicks swears by them).
