watching

i've never dug into jane fonda's story - i knew of her background, and i know that i enjoy her acting very much, especially in newsroom, but i didn't know what a phenomenal woman, human, activist, mother and businesswoman she is.  what a life she's led!   ladies, you need to watch this.  it's empowering and so very interesting how the acts in our lives are often determined by a man.  how we look for them, how we act, what we stop ourselves from doing, and what we learn from them.   it's on hbo.  get your friend's login, and watch tonight.

wearing

it's time for honest talk. i pimp golden goose sneakers, but i didn't own a pair until recently. i sort of watched from a distance, wondering 'is this me now? it seems to be everyone else now?" after alex convinced me to consign all of my isabel marant sneakers, i felt an over-priced trendy sneaker hole start to form in my brain, in my very soul. so now i have a pair, this pair specifically, and i understand the hype. even though the nyt says brooklyn moms (i'm choosing to identify with them right now) are moving on from GG sneaks and 'amazon coats' to no. 6 clogs and salt bag straps, i'm going to continue to do all the things in all the places until a cooler friend tells me to do differently. my GGs are from vermillion - they have a very dope edit in store right now and can ship you whatever your heart desires. also linking to some good-looking ones below. (mine are the mid-star, which is great. do that one)

sleeping

i've been sleeping under the same duvet for just about all of obama's term, and so it was time to shake it off like a calgon commercial and try something new.  my new bedroom is all about the texture - wall to wall sisal carpet, brick walls, exposed pipes in the ceiling (i'm so urban!), leather sofa, dog dirt, just all the natural elements are at play in hur.  i'd heard some buzz on threaded, an ethical and sustainable bedding company with really lovely basics, like duvets and sheeting.  to keep the textures turnt up, i took a chance on their rippled matelasse duvet cover, and it was 100% a win.  the first night I just kept yelling at tad 'ISN'T THIS LUXURIOUS!!', 'IT JUST FEELS SO HIGH-END!'.  who am i?  but seriously, it's really really nice - and I've already washed it (dog dirt texture) and it came out beautifully.  I just ordered another for the NYC apt - going with the gray honeycomb melange because that SOUNDS FANCY to me.

decorating

when it rains it pours and i've got my decorating umbrella wide open these days apparently. lots of projects in the works - the Bahamas beach house, a brand new modern home in pittsboro that's been a blast, and a couple of raleigh projects that are on the DL. (top secret decorating, full of intrigue, right?). with so many rooms on the brain, i'm combing all the sites looking for steals and deals. you always have to have a few in your back pocket for when the budget needs a breather, or, when you find big box sites just have good-looking items that fit the bill perfectly.

Blushing

wasn't i surprised to find garden & gun named our annabelle cordless lamps a 'design miracle'.  i've been pimping these lil lamps to everyone i know because they are so chic, and i don't think you understand how practical they are.  you can put a lamp ANYWHERE.  it doesn't plug in.  you can put one in a powder room.  on the bar.  outside for a dinner party!  in a bookcase, on the mantel, carry it around with you like a paul revere torch.  freedom!  it felt good to have Haskell, the style editor at G&G sing their praises in her editor's picks, because she is a design miracle herself #bangs #goals

Following

i discovered benjamin reynaert's ig feed last weekend, and it tickled me so much i told him so.  then he sent me a heart emoji back, so we're best friends.  in addition to DMing me as his bff, he's the senior style + market editor at architectural digest and he really seems to live his best life.  i fine-tooth combed his interior pics (his place is perfection), i bookmarked a few of his fave NY spots (the loyal in the west village - going there asap!), and enjoyed scoping all his super-chic travels.  you should follow him too, but don't imagine he'll have a lot of time to message - us new friends have a lot to cover.
