flings

Flings / January 4, 2019

whelp, the hype is real. me, and kim kardashian and everyone else, hopefully including you have watched it and totally dug it.  such an interesting idea, executed so well (look at you netflix producing exceptional movies with an all-star cast) – full of suspense and me standing on the sofa yelling and sandra bullock yelling.  watch tonight.  it’s important you’re in on this.

i thought i’d never, but i found myself ice climbing a few days ago here in aspen.  our guide summed it up best – ice climbing is level II fun –  sucks the entire time you are doing it, but you are excited to either brag about it at the bar (or on your blog) later or look back on it and value it as a character-building episode.  it was certainly that.  sucked.  hard.  it was 14 degrees and we hiked in 30 minutes to get to the cliffs.  then my hands froze, my spirit wavered, and then i did it.  and i felt good about it.

a friend here sported a little black gucci fanny pack to lunch and pulled it off so freaking well.  this has been a consideration for a while, but she solidified the case for a sporty little pack.  her trick was – make it part of the outfit.  even over a long camel jacket, and keep it on at all times.  own it.

every breakfast is made better with a dash of cheeto – new find: flaming hot chipotle ranch flavor.  a couple of poached eggs, some steamed broccoli, and a few fresh jalapeños over some roasted potatoes and you’re ready to be an ice-climber.

we’ve made some major progress at the house in aspen – enough so that i’m finally showing some scenes.  the banquette in the breakfast nook was just completed — remember those world market rugs i bought?  they made the perfect heavy-duty, budget-friendly cushions.  and one of the guest rooms was all ready to entertain thanks to a new headboard, a few African mud cloth pillows, a glass target lamp that I filled with vintage ski hats and a pretty kilim we thrifted down valley.

so glad the teddy jackets made it through another winter season – because they are warm as can be, washable and i enjoy how they look still.  also enjoying this new bag i got for christmas, and a fun strap from salt shoppe i customized it with.  my coat was last season h&m, sold out though (this color available), but i linked some good ones below (especially this one).  my favorite budget-friendly hats for mountain times are brixton.

finishing up all my picks for the bahamas project, and i’ve been finding constant inspiration from the ig account the island style.  it’s a good one – check it out

"Date 1944. Sorority sisters at the University of Texas." by sdasfvrce in OldSchoolCoolOn East Lake Shore Drive, this co-op project combined 2 separate units last updated in the '60s into 1 lavish apartment with a gut-remodel, relocating the kitchen to the front of the apartment overlooking the lake. Interior by Summer Thornton Design
ter bath, Thornton juxtaposed diagonal swaths of Calacatta Monet marble with Breccia stone to distract from the room’s asymmetrical layout while providing a unique take on tradition, highlighted by the Waterworks fixtures and a freestanding tub by Ann Sacks. The oak paneling was detailed with black molding, a reference to the hand-painted ceiling in the living room.
