packing for india

Travel / February 24, 2019

i can’t believe i’m headed to india in just a few days — i’ve never been this far from home!  thankfully i’ll be with a group (led by grant gibson, and including my friend Jordan!) and we’ve got a unbelievable itinerary jam-packed with shopping excursions, meetings with manufacturers, block-printing classes and plenty of sight-seeing.

jordan and i are spending a few days in paris beforehand, to break up the journey, and we leave on thursday.  so I’m in full-blown hustle mode, trying to get my ducks near each other.  packing for two trips in one is tough, and I’m attempting it all in one carry-on.

i (hopefully) finished up my last minute shopping for india today, picking up a few kiehl’s essentials at the mall, amazon-ing some staples like deet-wipes, earplugs and power adapters, and starting my typhoid vaccine (fun!).

here’s what i’m taking on the trip, plus a few more ideas that almost made the cut!

uniqlo ultra light down seamless parka // Isabel marant sandals // asos high-waisted pants with taper leg // ulla johnson skirt // pocket tee 3 pack // ganni sling bag // kiehl’s essentials in carry-on sizes // madewell tie front shirt // east of the sun paperback

My favorite part of India was finding sari shops in the market and standing back to watch the women shop. It’s the most beautiful shopping there is and Indian women know what they want and won’t stop until they find it.

On East Lake Shore Drive, this co-op project combined 2 separate units last updated in the '60s into 1 lavish apartment with a gut-remodel, relocating the kitchen to the front of the apartment overlooking the lake. Interior by Summer Thornton Designter bath, Thornton juxtaposed diagonal swaths of Calacatta Monet marble with Breccia stone to distract from the room’s asymmetrical layout while providing a unique take on tradition, highlighted by the Waterworks fixtures and a freestanding tub by Ann Sacks. The oak paneling was detailed with black molding, a reference to the hand-painted ceiling in the living room.
