it’s 5:40 in the am, and I’m siting right behind the toaster station in the admirals club at the airport. many parts of me wants to double-toast an English muffin (crispy!), slather it in crinkly butter packet and LIVE MY LIFE. but I’ve also fresh out of a 1-2 cold/mild depression punch and my pants are fitting gloriously, so I’m gonna talk to you instead.
I’m headed to nyc, so don’t worry. I’ll make for my early morning fastings there. I have a few days in the city with my friend Lauren who’s visiting from raleigh, and then I’m off to the Bahamas, schlepping 3 checked bags of pillows, quilts and ruffly basket things.
this nyc trip I’m excited to try a few new things: (see, excitement is back! mild depression feels abated when excitement returns, so hey, if you see something, say something).
1 – the shopbop pop-up store on spring street. I am specifically looking for nice t-shirts (could be a bodysuit), because as I was packing for this trip I noticed a staggering hole in my life exactly this shape. contenders I’ve got my eye on:
2 – dinner at the public hotel, at Jean Georges public kitchen.
3 – the massive attack concert at radio city music hall
despite the shortfall in shirts, I did manage to get all the packings into my trusty Tumi . I haven’t quite mastered leaving what I need at the nyc apt., so each packing event is still a bit of a crapshoot — but I’m getting better. what I always end up with are a few pairs of my fave Levis (which fit now – praise motherfucking be!), my pull on black sock boots which make the almost too-tight Levi’s feel classy, and a few blousey-blouses for the appearance of adulting. I tuck in a travel size santal perfume, a couple of pairs of fun earrings and some silky pants. OH! and I got a new bag – this one. that’ll show em. I feel like this should set me up for NYC success. Plus the great thing about there is you can assemble an outfit there out of total outliers and look like a Chloe Sevigny, and there’s much comfort in the air space there for freak flags.
au revoir for now. I’ll be back tomorrow because furbish is launching some new new and I want to tell you all about it! cut to theme music, people holding signs outside, and me sipping coffee on a stool with my feet crossed, throwing laughs to the wind (I’m a host on the today show, get it?).
