collecting

this recent stay in nyc, I found myself walking over to the west side each day to just roam around and see what I could discover.  I'm finally getting the hang of where I am, and I can mostly navigate now without a map - that feels exciting.  I found this artist set up on the street under the highline, right outside Santina, and I  immediately stopped in my tracks - knowing that this huge abstract collage was right for kondo. I gotta be honest - the mirror/gallery wall situation I have now is bugging me out big time.  I know it's not right, but I couldn't put my finger on what was.  then this!  he's a new artist (and I've already recruited him for a pop-up!), so I got this huge 6' x 5' for a song,  I've got a local guy stretching it for me, and building a custom wood frame.  can't wait to bring you some of his crazy colored goodness soon!

curating

a new batch of big rugs hitting the site later this week.  I brought this beauty home, but it's just a foster situation.  I wanted to see if we vibe, and although she's not quite right for my space, someone is going to be extra-lucky to shack up with her.  to make room for the newest shipment, the last remaining few vintage rugs are marked down. I am partial to this pretty girl - she's full of lavender and pink, and would be perfection by the bathtub, or in an entry.  so soft, and perfectly aged. check out the deals on vintage rugs, just marked down today!

scoring

on saturday, I drove right out to my closest target in garner, and walking through the door I was met with a shining display of John Derian goodness.  part of the '20 years of design' event, target has relaunched some of its best collabs, including Missoni, Erin Fetherston, Zac Posen and Altuzarra.  Most everything is sold-out, I'm sorry.  if you'd like to come live in garner for a while, so you have full access to things most people don't want, let's talk house swap?  most items do say temporarily out of stock, so keep an eye out for restocks!  check out my favorite picks from the event:

brunching

a handful of raleigh peeps were in nyc last week for faschun, including my friend SA, who met me for brunch at my usual Sunday spot, Lucien.  I have eggs nova and French fries, every Sunday at 11 - for your 411.  meanwhile, SA serves an amazing lewk that's major #daretomix goals.  shop her styles at Vermillion, now online!  those rad boots are here, and the dress is Ganni

get the look!

strolling

on one of my walks to the west side I did some window shopping, including Jonathan Adler, which led to in person shopping beyond the window.  this eye coffee table!  maybe in my ladies lounge for ladies who work on the internet and want to do it in the same room together.  right raleigh, we need this?  i often forget about Adler for furniture, but it should doth not be overlooked - there were more than a few things I spotted for clients.

discovering

um.  you can make red lobster cheddar bay biscuits at home.  which in my family growing up, there was no need to because my aunt would stuff no less than 1 dozen in her pocketbook each visit, and she'd put them in the freezer, to be brought out on occasions like thanksgiving and other biscuit holidays.  this was spotted at target, be advised.

wearing

found this cute little leopard print dress, and scooped it up for fall festivities.  pair it up with black leather boots and a jean jacket for success.  although I'm hesitant to cover up those good-looking sleeves!

cooking

I attempted a tie-dyed cake this weekend.  things that worked: it's attractive to look at.  things that did not work: it doesn't taste like much.  now that my artistic technique is down, I need to tackle the art of baking a half-way decent cake.

On East Lake Shore Drive, this co-op project combined 2 separate units last updated in the '60s into 1 lavish apartment with a gut-remodel, relocating the kitchen to the front of the apartment overlooking the lake. Interior by Summer Thornton Designter bath, Thornton juxtaposed diagonal swaths of Calacatta Monet marble with Breccia stone to distract from the room’s asymmetrical layout while providing a unique take on tradition, highlighted by the Waterworks fixtures and a freestanding tub by Ann Sacks. The oak paneling was detailed with black molding, a reference to the hand-painted ceiling in the living room.
