put our magic to the test!

Furbish / September 20, 2019

if you’ve been watching our guest list feature over at furbish, it’s really becoming my teenage dream team. well, teenage actually makes it creepy – I need to find new pop culture references to maintain revelvancy, I know.

each month we feature a fancy friend and their wonton wish-list. we started with Charlotte decorator Barrie Benson, who set the bar sky-high with her super-chic picks, followed by MA Allen, and then Mr. Olsen. Today we’re featuring a personal pinch-me moment, a certified girl-crush harkening back to my Domino mag days: Tori Mellott. I remember my first intro to Tori via the magazine’s market edit feature, and I would comb through every detail of her polished picks, noting why she choose them, and wondering HOW DOES SHE KNOW ALL THIS. Smart as a whip, and funny as all get-out – Tori is good people, and I’m beyond tickled to have been able to spend some time with her over the last 10 years. She’s the type of friend that if you find your place card next to her at dinner, you are stoked: it’s a guaranteed good time. She’s real, and self-deprecating, and gorgeous, plus: an award-winning mom (if she hasn’t won the award yet, she should).

Go check out her picks and if you squint your eyes just right and maybe put on some black eyed peas lovely lady humps, you might just think you’re in 2005 and your newest issue of domino has arrived, and in no time, you’ll be at target, trying to make a blown-glass vase look like something you picked up in Positano.

Enjoy!

a few faves from tori’s guest list picks:

"Date 1944. Sorority sisters at the University of Texas." by sdasfvrce in OldSchoolCoolOn East Lake Shore Drive, this co-op project combined 2 separate units last updated in the '60s into 1 lavish apartment with a gut-remodel, relocating the kitchen to the front of the apartment overlooking the lake. Interior by Summer Thornton Design
ter bath, Thornton juxtaposed diagonal swaths of Calacatta Monet marble with Breccia stone to distract from the room’s asymmetrical layout while providing a unique take on tradition, highlighted by the Waterworks fixtures and a freestanding tub by Ann Sacks. The oak paneling was detailed with black molding, a reference to the hand-painted ceiling in the living room.
