the one candle to lift your holiday spirit and soar your Christmas cheer

life things / November 13, 2019

Good morning young people from raleigh, nc - where major and I are perched in front of the space heater, looking around kondo and figuring out what we need to do this winter to warm up this joint. aesthetically: plaid. practically: lined roman shades because the windows are huge, and old and I can see daylight in many corners.  While neither of these items can happen right this second, what can happen is lighting a candle and basking in the glow of luxurious holiday aromas and the perceived warmth from 3-wicks of indulgence.

There are a few things each fall that really rev up my seasonal feelz - network TV Christmas commercials (such nostalgia), green bean casserole (innovation starts now because I need to master the chili cheese Frito topping before thanksgiving, and my Nest holiday candle.

For years at Furbish, I'd get a Kris Kringle tingle when our order of candles showed up from Nest.  Boxes full of these luxe red velvet boxes, and the smell!  It never fails to evoke that amazing mix of anticipation and memories that only a great smell can do.

Just about no one would be upset unwrapping a classic holiday candle this Christmastime - the classic is the BEST hostess gift and the votives make excellent stocking stuffers. Major and I are basking in the glow of our just-delivered 3-wick and thinking if the eggs in the fridge are still ok to cook.  later I'm going to head out and see if I can find a tree (are they for sale yet)?  Because we're headed to Colorado mid-December for the holidays, my window for kondo kristmas is narrow, but I'm going to fill it to the trim.  Lights will come out tonight (if I can find the key to my storage unit, hmmm....), and I'm v. excited for my new tree skirt I made in Jaipur, and the resurgence of the prettiest paper mache tree topper I managed to snag from Furb last year before they dashed away quicker than Prancer.
