BLUE AND WHITE 4 LIFE

Decorating / February 10, 2020

My computer got clean a few months ago, but this week, it relapsed.  Too many photos and texts and life on it -- way too much for me to sort through.  When she starts to sputter and spin, I just anxiously delete the biggest things I can find.  During today's resuscitations, I stumbled on this photo from Furbish's Johnston St. store.

What a pretty moment, right?  Loved that coral palm wallpaper, and that old wood china cabinet.  We used to sell the best selection of blue and white dinnerware.  Bowls, plates, trays and vases ... they were lovely to look through.

I use my blue and white pieces often - they're our everyday plates in Raleigh and NYC.  The bowls serve a zillion purposes - great for snacks at cocktail parties, plenty of them hold hair-ties and chapsticks in the bathroom, and there are always a few on the coffee table or a console full of matchbooks.

Here are a few items that are long-time faves - take a gander, and go get you some blue n' white!

The party photos were from a lil spring thang I hosted on our glorious front porch in Raleigh. The best thing about the rental house I lived in on Glenwood, for just a year, was a huge porch, complete with swing and rocking chairs. Dinner parties were a blast - we could set up to 20 out there! Stacks of blue and white porcelain dinnerware are perfect to have on hand for entertaining - they mix with just about any linens, and they all go together just fine, so you don't have to worry about that full set of anything!

On East Lake Shore Drive, this co-op project combined 2 separate units last updated in the '60s into 1 lavish apartment with a gut-remodel, relocating the kitchen to the front of the apartment overlooking the lake. Interior by Summer Thornton Designter bath, Thornton juxtaposed diagonal swaths of Calacatta Monet marble with Breccia stone to distract from the room’s asymmetrical layout while providing a unique take on tradition, highlighted by the Waterworks fixtures and a freestanding tub by Ann Sacks. The oak paneling was detailed with black molding, a reference to the hand-painted ceiling in the living room.
