FLINGS

Flings / May 28, 2020

PHOTOGRAPHING

There's a whole slew of new newness coming in hot at Furbish this week. I'm particularly stoked about our latest velvet pillows - from tiger prints to candy-colored stripes, our new collection was designed to mix and match. You can't go wrong with any combo! Keep checking back in June as we really ramp up our cushion category - we're bringing back some throwback faves, and some new kooky combos that I've been dreaming up (think ticking stripes with neon brush fringe trim!)

SHOPPING

I don't have a single plan to go anywhere that requires a bathing suit, yet I'm browsing cute bikinis like I've got a seaside suite booked.  I just discovered swimwear brand Juan De Dios, and if I was a real girl, I'd be a smitten kitten (if you can just once catch a girl blogger saying that IRL, like in natural conversation, I'll buy you a swimsuit).  The reversible bikini tops are amazing - and the one shoulder ruffles are extra-chic.  Check out these v. attractive pieces:

DECORATING

Covid put the kibosh on a lot of my design projects this spring, but one we've made a real push on is a fave client's poolhouse. How amazing would it be to have a backyard oasis this summer particularly when staying safer at home is the reason for the season. We weren't quite on track for a Memorial Day open, but the poolhouse will be very pretty soon, especially after a new paint job today. How cool is the mint green accent on just the bottom half of the wall?

WATCHING

A magical moment over our bed.  We added a mobile to one of the exposed pipes a couple of months ago, and it's parked right in front of the air vent so it's constantly spinning.  Most nights I find myself staring at it bopping around rather than the tv screen (not a bad thing).  I can't recommend getting a mobile enough.  Such a simple pleasure that helps me relax and be still - two things that aren't always easily achieved.  Here are a few good ones I found:

DISCOVERING

I stumbled on a great home furnishings site this week: Oka.  They have some super-chic stuff, but my most exciting find was this faux tortoiseshell mirror.  I had been searching high and low for this, and wasn't even sure it existed, until hark!  Oka's got it, plus some really cute patterned lampshades that are fairly affordable.  Definitely worth a cruise-through on their site, look what else I found:

READING

If you splurge on one coffee table book anytime soon, I vote you save all your monies and go for this one.  I treated myself several months ago, and the book lives on my coffee table and is one of the most eye-catching eyecandies in the whole room (and that's a cake to take because the room is full of items - have you seen my bookcase?).  The neon yellow huge hardcover comes in a cool book jacket, that's also great to display on it's own.  The cover is bright orange and has a really cool quote from Andy Warhol on the back.  Just like my fave restaurant Kanki, it's pretty much dinner AND a show with this one.

DESIGNING

We're way behind on receiving our summer orders from India since they've been shut down completely for almost two months now, so I needed to improvise - and what better way to get my creative juices flowing than reissuing one of my favorite granny-takes-acid floral prints as pillows, paired with coordinating plaid blankets that I'm custom-making in two colorways.  I'm encouraged that I've found 'my' method for bed-making, and now I'm making it my mission to bring a finessed formula to Furbish customers so that they can order all the pieces they need for for a luxe looking, pretty and practical bed!  Science!

On East Lake Shore Drive, this co-op project combined 2 separate units last updated in the '60s into 1 lavish apartment with a gut-remodel, relocating the kitchen to the front of the apartment overlooking the lake. Interior by Summer Thornton Designter bath, Thornton juxtaposed diagonal swaths of Calacatta Monet marble with Breccia stone to distract from the room’s asymmetrical layout while providing a unique take on tradition, highlighted by the Waterworks fixtures and a freestanding tub by Ann Sacks. The oak paneling was detailed with black molding, a reference to the hand-painted ceiling in the living room.
