About a year ago, during one of the non-lockiess-down states of the pandemic, I went to upstate NY to make friendship with Nick Olsen. We paid a round of socially-distanced visits to a roster of his city-gone-country-mouse friends, including artist couple Mary Nelson Sinclair and Matty Cruise. Mary and Matty had settled into their bucolic idyll to ride out 2020, and it’s no surprise they’ve decided to stay. The home they’ve created in the Hudson Valley is equal parts country chic to badass bohemian rhapsody. I was mentally taking notes during our visit, thinking to myself, “I can’t believe I’m seeing this in real life”. It was the modern day equivalent of stepping into a Domino Magazine cover story (golden-age D, not current – there is a chasmic difference.
From bright blockprinted upholstery to wow-wow-wow statement-making wallpaper, and unique upholstered pieces oozing with character to family heirlooms paired with of-the-moment coffee table books, the home was a treasure trove of eye-candy and inspo. I left with at least a dozen tricks to try at my own place. Enjoy a few fave pics from their AD feature, and click over to read more.
